I don’t know about you , but I have never enough of spelling games… I hunt for some on Pinterest, on some of my friends blogs , I invent all kinds of ideas to make my kids write or spell aloud without them realizing that we are doing some spelling ( including some jumping around outside) I know it’s a bit sneaky but as you guessed writing is not their favorite topic . They have absolutely no problem with Math, actually they love Math and Science ! I don’t know what happened because when I was young I dreaded Math and I loved writing !
Anyways , If you are also hunting for new spelling ideas I thought you might like to have new spelling games ready to use.
You can chose from 8 different pages
with a variety of sounds or fill up the last page with the sounds you are working on with your kids or class. Then just print, grab a dice and a timer and go!
How to play
- This game is an adaptation of a French game called “ le petit bac”.
- Choose one page according to the sounds you want to review, print a sheet for each child.
- One person rolls the dice and sees what sound we will need to finds words for ( depending on what pages it can be sounds by which the words start or instead words that contain the sounds.
- Without looking at the others , the players have 2 or 3 minutes to try to fill up one line.
- When the time is over you count 2 points for each word that no other player has and 1 point if other players also wrote it.
- you can decide to also count only one point if the word is not correctly spelled, depending on the age and whatever is not discouraging for them.
There is pages for short vowels , long vowels sounds , blends , digraphs and more …
What about printing on some colorful paper for more fun?
